Stolen art

Journal Entry: Mon Sep 15, 2008, 9:33 AM

EDIT#2- The individual has finally decided to delete everything in their gallery. About time. Not that I trust them to not do it again. People like this should be banned!

EDIT#1-Seems the person has changed the work to another stolen piece. It may not be mine any more but it is still stolen work.

Check this out
There's this person [link] here on DA with a bunch of work that doesn't belong to him/her on their gallery, including one of mine. Now he comes to my page bragging that he has the same piece as me. So I asked him nicely that he shouldn't post my work on his page and to please remove it. And he/she actually said that's it's not my work that they will not remove it. What?!?
Here's the stolen piece, my signature is even still on it: [link]
Here' mine: [link]
Now this is annoying. If he likes the piece and wanted to show it and give me credit fine. But to take it and then claim is not even mine, that's going to far! I don't know what the deal is with this person but I'm not happy about it. Any ideas what I can do?

I'm late to the party, but I'm gonna go ahead and guess this was some really young kid who doesn't really understand what you mean when you say a piece is "yours" and thinks this site is for... posting cool stuff you've found online.

Don't forget most people can't read or think, much less both at the same time. *cough*

Mike I agree with you. The difference here was that when I confronted the kid about it he said that the work was not my original work. And therefore it was okay for him to show it and get credit for it.
That was too much for me. I asked him nicely to take it down or give credit but instead he told me to shut up. So I came down on him.
I don't want to be a jerk but I think that he went to far.

Oh, I completely agree he went too far, I'm just saying his whole behavior seems so idiotic that there really isn't any other explanation. Doesn't mean you have to put up with it.

Looks like I missed all the excitement, but I totally agree that the best idea was to let us all know. Art thieves should be shown no mercy :angered:

That's right! There should be zero tolerance for that type of behavior.

I just finished campaigning to shut down a similar gallery. The guy had stolen his entire gallery from different artists. At one point he even took a request and then swiped a piece to fill that request.

I don't understand what people get out of this sort of thing. The work is getting praise but they didn't do the work so I don't get what sort of vicarious thrill there is to be had in art theft.
