Lost kitty and another list.

Journal Entry: Tue Aug 28, 2007, 7:20 PM

I lost one of my cats
One of my cats got out on Thursday and has not returned yet. There was family over last week and someone who is always "flaky" stopped to talk with the porch door open. I don't know who many times I told this person not to do that! It pisses me off when someone is so irresponsible, this was not the first time that the cat escaped on this same person too. So I'm hoping he comes back, usually when the cat got out he was gone for an hour and stayed in the yard. But he's never been missing for this long. This is dragging me down...

List
Alright, Mr. Spacecowboy76 :iconspacecowboy76: has tagged me with an interesting list. At least better than the weird habits one, I've exhausted that one. This one is about your art but I'm going to modify it a bit and comment on also on things I feel about art. So here's the rules:
1-post these rules
2-each person tagged must post 8 facts about their artwork. I'm only doing 6.
3-tags should write a journal of these facts
4- at the end of the post 8 more bloggers are tagged and named
5-go to their blog and leave a comment telling them they're tagged

1. I find that I have to draw all the time in order to stay inspired. If I take too long of a break it's always hard to find new inspiration. Eventually I'll just get mad at myself and push myself to work but I feel dissapointed I wasted to much time that I could have been drawing.

2.My art is too static. I need to add more action in my work. The jobs I'm doing now are helping me in this area. But it's so easy to just do what I feel comfortable with.

3.Lately I've been trying to combine the more dynamic use of shading and movement found in comics with my own painted look. This is nothing new for some artists but it's new to me.

4. Doing fan art is also new for me. In the past I didn't mind being inspired by something but I would always avoid fan art because I think that fan art holds many artists back. Weather it's drawing well know characters all the time (spider-man, wolverine) or only drawing in one "style" (comic, manga, cartoon) young artists need to stay open to different influences. I believe fan art should be done on occasion by young artist and not all the time. To me, seeing a gallery of all the same stuff says lack of creativity. Only in the last year have I allowed myself to make fan art because I feel confident in my growth.

5. I hate it when someone tries to use "style" as an excuse for not knowing artistic basics. Learn the rules then you can break them when necessary! Study art, look at people's work, read a book, follow a tutorial from a good artist (too many people on DA write tutorials that don't have the talent to back it up, sorry it's true). And afterwards practice what you learned. Don't practice without studying, all you are doing is reinforcing in your head how to do it wrong.

6. I wish more people would critique. This is what I believe a critique should include: Something positive, something negative (if there is something that needs to be addressed). It should not be preachy, don't act like a know-it-all, just simply say your impression of it, show respect (remember someone worked hard on that ugly thing) but don't kiss ass either.

I'm not gonna tag anyone. But any is welcomed to do it if they wish.

4. I hear ya bro. Loud and clear.

5. Amen. You gotta know what the rules are before you can start breaking them.

6. Finding folks who have balance is hard to do here, though it's possible. I'm glad you brought up the "not preachy" part; I find that on other art sites as well as here.

Seeing as DA is an art site only masquerading as a freakshow, I thought it'd be interesting to read what people actually had to say about the art they create.

1 & 2 I'm definitely feeling.
5 & 6 Kinda create a problem for each other. I mean, what if you start getting critiques like, "You should start using more style in your work. I always keep a fresh can of Dinty Moore Insta-Style open by my easel - just in case I need it. Try strapping a fish to your head, and go with out bathing. I find that works too."

Thanks for taking the time! And I promise not to tag you ever again :D

And I hope the cat comes home.

2. lol Im always yelling at my art once its done because all my art ends up static. :angered:

5. art is like building a structure. you can't have a solid building without a good foundation.

4. very true.

6. I couldn't have said it any better. It is something I have noticed in a large portion of comments. How can you improve (if its needed) if most comment do not offer some kind of critique (constructive)?.....

if your cat has been home for a long time, there is a good chance he will return.

I hope he comes back, I've had him for a few years. He was adopted from a local shelter so at least he has experience being outside...

Haha, it was no problem that you tagged me. It was fun...although I have been tagged many times already. I was glad that at least your list was different that the usual ones.
