Yith Creature Concept by NathanRosario Yith Creature Concept by NathanRosario
Trying my own spin on one of Lovecraft's many creatures, the Great Race of Yith (from the short story "the shadow out of time"). I tried to keep the main components of this race but gave them a more mollusk type of heredity in order to ground the concept in reality.

Great job. I hadn't thought of the possibility that the extending/retracting of their limbs being due to them being "hermit" creature going in and out of shells. I'm surprised I hadn't thought of that before, given their method of moving. This has certainly changed my mental image of that era of Yithians. I like your version of the fourth appendage. I totally see why this Yithian has kinda clam shaped claws, but I usually think of them being more crab-like but with more articulation. Two things that stood out to me as being off right away .... too many eyes, and doesn't look very plant-like. Still a Great Drawing of Yith though. :)

Great take on the Yithians!

When reading the story I had some trouble visualising just what they looked like. The image that ended up in my head was pretty goofy and not at all Lovecraftian. This is so much better, and I'm going to read the story again with this in mind. Good job.

Looks a bit like a Facehugger will jump out of the middle and yell 'Trick or Treat!' before latching on to your face.

You can hug him if you want to but it's going to be a slimy hug!

Typical images and depictions of the Yithians just look too silly, like plastic/cardboard props from a really bad 1950's sci-fi flick. This image, thankfully, looks nothing like that. You made the Yithian's appearance plausible and organic, but still kept the weird, otherworldly feel.

For some reason, this Yithie looks oddly cuddly. I have this powerful and unexplainable urge to hug it. :iconrlyplz:

Nice rendition of the Yith. I love the short story they are featured in, and I think you really captured them well.

My favourite Lovecraftian race, and you have really hit something original here. I have looked at many peoples concepts of the great race, and hell even tried drawing some myself, but you sir have truly taken home gold.

You have really made it look natural, while keeping to the description, brilliant piece of creature concept.

Actually, now that I have heard the whole audio story, it was the "Elder Things". I highly doubt the Elder Ones had time to be on Earth.

No, that was the "Elder Ones". An ancient race of the same time period as the Yith.

Was it the Yith that killed and butchered the explorers and dogs in the Mountains of Madness?

I am in love with this design. Rarely do I see Yithian designs that actually look plausible. Well-done, sir. I am thoroughly impressed.

You really managed to keep Lovecraft's references while giving zoological realism to the creature. Congrats!

VERY NICE!!!! this is one of my favourite stories... oh how i would love to visit their library  i haven't the balls to attempt to depict an actual lovecraft creature, and i have to say, you have nailed it! and the oily colour makes me think of "the colour out of space". exquisite, my friend!

Really awesome concept for a Yith creature, it looks believable. I always thought the Yithians were one of the more...biological nonsensical of Lovecraft's creatures, but this one looks plausible. And creepy and squishy.

This is a splendid piece! It looks horrible. The thought of a mollusc moving around like that - I just know it's disgusting, like it's should be a reptile and yet it isn't. Nice effect.

On the other hand, since it's a mollusc, I wonder what it looks like cooked. :/
