Doesn't look like a tiger, more like a lion with bits added on. Though that is not impossible as the descriptions do mention the "body" of a "red lion." Though red lion sounds more like tiger than anything else.
I'm serious, btw. Manticore is the Latinized version of the Persian phrase, which does mean man-eater. Even the Romans, like Pausanias, thought it was a tiger that got messed up in translation. Now Pliny the Elder, he felt differently.
